Bikeout is an adventure company that empowers people to experience bike travel.

We're content geeks who found that traveling long distance using a bike was a unique way to unwind, and now we're launching more bike adventures across the country. We're deeply interested in using journalism and content to better connect with our community and improve and add value to our bike travel offerings.

As we launch in 2020, we're seeking writers that have pitches relevant to a community of people that see bicycles as tools to thrive in communities across the country and stories that can help them understand the possibilities of bike travel. This isn't a publication for cyclists, it's a publication for people that use bikes.

For example, we are interested in learning more about how bike trails create economic impact; how bike infrastructure happens; inclusivity in outdoor and public spaces; how biking impacts wellness beyond physical activity; how our perception of travel has changed with technology; and other big picture themes.

2020 will be a modest start with 6-8 total feature stories, paying a range of 30-50 cents per word. We'd like to follow the freelance rates suggested by writers organizations like Study Hall, but as a startup, we'll have limitations as we start. We hope folks will see our rates as a sign of good faith.

If interested, please be in touch with Head of Creative Brian James Kirk at brian@bikeout.co with your resume and examples of your work. Brian formerly cofounded Technical.ly, a publication focused on local tech economies, and has been featured in Nieman Journalism Lab for his work there.‍
